Meghalaya introduces 'Tourist Buddies' Program
Meghalaya Government has recently rolled out a people-first initiative named "Tourist Buddies" in order to ensure a safer and seamless travel experience across four of the state's most visited destinations Shillong, Sohra (Cherrapunji), Dawki, and Mawlynnong. The ‘Tourist Buddies’ scheme is a collaborative effort by the Meghalaya Department of Tourism and the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS).
The initiative trains local youth to become tourism ambassadors dedicated to offer assistance, safety support, and cultural insight to tourists. In addition to hospitality, first aid, safety protocols, communication, and cultural awareness. The Tourist Buddies will also serve as friendly guides, local experts, and safety personnel, bridging the gap between visitors and local authorities.
