Sikkim gets its first railway station after 49 years! 

After a remarkable 49 years, Sikkim is celebrating its first railway station in Rangpo, marking a significant milestone in the state's connectivity and accessibility. This much-anticipated development is set to boost tourism, trade, and overall economic growth for the region. From West Bengal's Sevok to Sikkim's Rangpo, the railway line will have five stations stretching nearly 45 kms.

 

The connection will also include four open crossing stations which are Sevok, Riyang, Melli and Rangpo. From Sikkim you can visit Yumthung valley (the valley of flowers), Gurudongmar lake (highest lake in India), Peling (a picturesque town), Namchi ( a spiritual hub) and much more interesting places.



Gupteswar Forest declared as 4th Heritage Site

Odisha comes with good news as the pristine Gupteswar Forest, which lies adjacent to the Gupteswar Shiva temple in Odisha's Koraput district, has officially been designated as the 4th Biodiversity-Heritage Site (BHS) in the state. It is spread over a vast area of 350 hectares where the site features sacred groves revered by the local community and is endowed with a diverse range of flora and fauna.

 

Gupteswar forest is home to a diverse range of species like 28 variants of mammals, 18 species of amphibians, 188 species of birds, 48 species of reptiles, 141 species of butterflies, 45 species of fishes, 43 species of moths, 41 species of odonates, 30 species of spiders, 20 species of lower invertebrates, and 6 species of scorpions.

Chennai Airport introduces Digi Yatra

 On a recent report on escalation of Digi Yatra, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, India has announced the launch of the app in Chennai airport from March 31, 2024. The app uses Facial Recognition Technology for contactless and seamless movement of passengers at various checkpoints inside the airport. The app was launched in December '22, available in 13 airports in India so far and slowly gaining popularity.



Bengaluru BBP set to start Leopard Safari

 Leopard safari at Banerghatta Biological Park (BBP) is poised to start soon as green signaled by Forest, Environment and Ecology Minister of India. In 20 hectares of land, the safari will be implemented in a carefully designed enclosure where 12 leopards have been accommodated with a capacity of 20. All leopards available are under one year of age rescued within first two months of life.
